DIY Rear Corner Vent Glass Window Replacement Corolla 93 - 97

This is a DIY of the rear vent glass window . That's what it is called if you ever purchase one from the junk yard .







First you unscrew and remove the inside door handle and don't forget to pop the plastic clip with out breaking it . ( Reminder : When you put the handle back on don't forget to put this plastic clip back on . )







Then you unscrew the door arm rest .







From there you pull up on the door panel being careful you don't break the panel and make sure all the panel fasteners are in the back of the panel so when you put this back on it will hold properly .







Then you unplug the power window motor . If you have manual window handles there is a clip behind the handle you can pop out with a flat head screw driver .







Then you remove the plastic on the door , Make sure you put this back on when you are finished with your project it's there for a reason .







Since the window is broken you can remove the rubber molding that holds the window in place . You can reuse it if you only purchased the window but in this DIY the window came with it . So it's best you just keep this for future use .







With the back window halfway down you remove the bolts that hold the window motor , Before removing the last bolt hold the glass to keep from dropping and shattering .







Once you remove the last bolt raise the window up by hand and release the wheel from the bottom of the window . Then you remove the window motor out and then you slowly bring the window all the way down till it stops and leave it there .











Then you remove the two bolts that hold the frame of the vent glass .







Then when that is loose you gently push the frame till you see it pulling away from the window in the door .







Then you can remove the window gently . If you have tinted windows you have to be very patient you do not scratch your tint . Place it some where so it doesn't break or fall .





Then you gen

tly with out breaking the weld spot on the top of the frame you pull the vent frame towards the front .







Then you remove the molding with a flat head screw driver being careful you do not break the plastic snaps .











Then with your new window with the mold around it you put in your glass . Push the vent frame back but do not bolt it yet .







Then you remove the side molding on the inside of the back window on both sides but do not remove the top part of the door only the sides . Once you have them removed you can now put the back window in the track and there it will sit very loosely .











Then you can slide the rubber molding down on each side of the window till it is back to normal then you can start putting the window motor back on and then tighten the frame and put it all back together . I did not need any soap or anything to put the molding back it slid down perfectly.







Then when you are done it should look like this .

Another great DIY. Fortunately I've never had my rear quarter glass broken, but if I ever do I'll know exactly what to do. Nice job.

so that rubber moulding in between the inside door panel and the quarter window just comes off after you remove the inside door panel?? I thought there was some sort of glue or clip underneath holding it down

No its molded shape to fit the design on the inside track thats why it can slide . and it doesnt go all the way down it goes half way .

ok cool because I've been putting dynamat extreme inside on the outer panel skin and inner skin on only the driver's and passenger's side doors. I've been wanting to put some on the rear doors.



That plastic lining on the doors is the water lining to seal out any incoming water, but if you seal it up with dynamat extreme, then it's the same thing.

Yes your correct the dynamat should act as a shield to the water .

awesome write up! I just replaced my vent window yesterday after getting my car broken into.



One thing to add though... When you say press gently on the vent glass frame so as not too break the spot weld up top, why not just remove the final bolt for the frame that is under the doors weather stripping where said spot weld is located? I could not get my vent window in just by bending the frame as I waited to hear the inevitable snap of the weld. I unbolted it and it went in very easily, this also makes it very easy to remove main window.

Just as I thought I would be able to help, (just started a diy on this lol) I find your thread lol! Anyways, you DO NOT have to take the window/motor out or take off so much interior/exterior molding. If you roll the window down and take the screw out of the top of the window track you can easily lean the track away from the spot where you are trying to fit your new window. All i had to do was take the inside door panels off. And with even less effort change your broken window out easily! Great write up though!!! if anyone needs I have pics of what I'm talking about.



P.S. Dang this duck tape residue is a pain! Best thing i found so far is using 90%+ alcohol, and even with that its not easy!!!

It will greatly be appreciated if you can post up the pics and some detailed steps. (at least for me). I just realized about the duck tape residue... crap.... anyways, im going to be ordering the window from toyota for $40 so it isnt that bad, but the dealership wanted to charge $220 for labour... i checked with local mechanic and its $50 labour... so hoping to do this myself on the weekend.

I got mines from the junkyard for 2 bucks lol.



Okay after you take both the door card and the main weather stripping off the door you"ll find a little screw on the top.





Unscrew it, and gently pull back the inner bigger window molding like this.







Then slowly pull the window track towards the bigger window and wiggle the glass/molding in slowly! It opens up plenty of room to slide it in. Start with the bottom and work up. Make sure once its in that you gently push it in completely to make sure its seated correctly.







Replace the screw on top while pushing gently on the track towards the replaced window (so it doesnt drag down on the window when you roll it up) and the door card and your Finished!

Edit: Actually i just went back and re read this entire thread. The window track is NOT welded on the top, therefore no reason to remove window/motor. The "correct and proper" way of doing such, would be to follow rollas DIY. But im stubborn and to save time and stress you can do it the way i did.

there is none at the junkyards in my area. i've tried calling already, none of them seem to have it... i dont know hows that possible as corollas are so common.



Anyways the one from toyota only comes with the glass, so do i have to remove the moulding that goes around the glass first from the car and put it onto the glass and then install? or can i just slide the glass in the moulding thats still on the car...?
