Battery/Alarm problem 1996 Corolla

My battery died. I'm changing it at the moment and every time I hook it up the alarm goes off. Can't get it to stop, didn't even know the alarm worked. Just bought the car 6 months ago and it didn't come with a clicker. Previous owner just said it didn't work.

Any help would be great, thanks.

Is it an aftermarket alarm? If so, have a look under the dash for a little button or toggle switch. If you find one, put your key in the ignition and turn it to the 'ON' position, then within 5-seconds press and hold the button until the little flashing LED in your dash goes solid (it should chirp once too). This should override the system and allow you to actually start the car. If it's a factory installed alarm system then it's a lot harder to disable unless you have the key fob (remote).
