Shopping for tires

I have an 09 XRS with 18" wheels. The tire size currently on is P215 45zr18. I would like to switch to a P245-45-18. Does anyone know if they will fit? How about rubbing. The P245 come in a lot more choices.

TIA

do 245/40 instead to keep the same aspect ratio as 215/45

Zeus611... did you get the 245's in? I'm on the fence over 245's on 8.5" rims and 235's on a 8" rim. I like the wider tire, but I like the 8" rim better. Anyone have any input?

245/30R19 on 19"x8.5" rims or

235/35R19 on 19"x8" rims?

Holy thread resurrection.

Regarding the two options, I would go with the first option since the wider rim will allow the tire to seat and stretch nicely over the rim with full support for tire walls. There should be no tirewall "bulging" on the sides, which could result in tire rolling over itself and really make the car feel squishy.

Anyway, the original poster's tire will be a lot taller with 245/45 since he is making the tire wall height taller (45% of the width, which is 245 mm vs 45% of the width in OEM as 215 mm).

I would strongly advice against it. Here is a nice tool that allows you to compare two tire sizes and gives a very accurate dimension comparison:
