New to toyota

I bought a 99 Toyota 4x4 reg. cab last night from my ex son-in-law. Has 140k on it. 2.7 5sp. Know the truck well. he did reg. oil changes on it. Allways did them himself. Problem is he never checked the oil in the trans. Burnt it up. My ? is do the trans and transfer case share oil or are they seperate. Also can it be towed 4 down. Want to tow behind my Motor Home. He was in need of cash i gave him $500 for it. Going to pull the trans in a week or 2 and do a rebuild on it. Have not done one since 73 when I did my Muncie 4 speed. Be fun. See if I remember how. Getting a book later to day. Thanks, John

It's moved. I assumed it to be a Tacoma (you didn't specify).

John, IIRC, the tranny and transfer case have different fluids. There's a few stickies posted atop this forum, do a search there and see if that helps you any as well I hope. How heavy is the motor home? I think the towing capacity for the Taco is 2500 lbs.

LOL, I want to flat tow the taco BEHIND the Motor Home. The M/H weighs 9700 dry,.

Unless it has locking hubs and not the ADD, I wouldnt tow it on all fours. Because the CV axles will get all the added mileage, too. Just my opinion.
