opening relay Question

Hi guys, first post, lots of lurking though!

89 3zve, started having intermittent starting problems, cranks well, but no starting. If i wait with the key on i could hear a relay (turned out to be opening relay) click, then away it would go and run fine until the next day. Today i pulled the air filter box off, and push the flap open, and i could hear the relay grunting, so i spent the time and pulled everything out of the passenger side panel until i found the relay, it seems to be clicking fine, and it will run fine but quits randomly.

Can I wire up a standard 12v relay in the opening relay's place? or is there a way to determine if the sensor in the air box flap is working properly? thanks guys

Brian

NO, you can not. The COR is not an ordinary relay.

What you can do to see if the COR is the problem is to jump the Fp and +B terminals on the test connector an bypass it. The test connector is attached to the engine bay fuse box.

Thanks for the info. After posting i pulled the realay off the mount and ran my test light, and figured i couldnt use a normal relay. I will jump the terminals today.

Tested the VAF meter with my Meter and it checked out good. Only suspect is the COR or mouse have eaten the wires. I had the harness and pulled and twisted hard to try to find the problem, but i think it is ok.
